The Fiberglass Swimming Pool Experts

David Pool and Spa was officially opened in January 2013 by Bob David and his son Lance David. However, our story starts even earlier than that.

Bob David, the founder of David Pool and Spa, has over 30 years of experience in the swimming pool industry. Starting back in 1992, Bob began working for large El Paso-based swimming pool companies. From the ground up, he learned all the inner workings of sales, swimming pool construction, customer service and after-installation care. Taking this knowledge, Bob, through all his hard work and dedication, worked himself into the president’s seat of his former El Paso-based company, Advanced Pools.

Advanced Pools, known for their award-winning, high-end concrete pool designs, and part of an exclusive group known as the Master Pool Guild, looked to grow their ever-changing business – so they added Viking (Latham) fiberglass pools. This was a new change. An easier-to-install pool with fewer complications, greater warranties, and easier maintenance for pool owners were all on the scene. Bob was so impressed that in the 10 years of his presidency, he installed over 500 fiberglass pools.

The relationship with Viking Pools, today known as Latham, and Bob was so strong that in 2011 Latham asked Bob to come to Odessa, Texas, and become their local dealer. This was a big deal, as Latham’s Texas manufacturing facility was based out of Odessa.

Bob relocated in 2012 to Odessa, Texas, as Advanced Pools. Looking for a change, Bob and his partner agreed to sell Bob’s shares of the business back to them and provide a new start to both sides. Bob, taking all of the experience from past failures and successes, decided that the future of his business would be built on a model that started mean and lean from the ground up. He knew he needed to hire a salesperson who could understand the processes fast, understand the world and its financial climate, and who would have the ability to create and design in 3D. He needed a product presentation that would meet the expectations of the customers they were providing for, so he called his son Lance.

Lance David never had any interest in being in the pool business. Lance was already self made in his own way. At a young age, he began in retail sales learning the ins and outs from popular east coast retail chains like Nobody Beats the Wiz and Circuit City. During his college years, he continued his retail journey in telecommunications by managing and operating multiple locations for Nextel Communications, which later became Sprint.

Searching for something that would build a deeper relationship with customers, he worked his way into banking and finance where he established himself among the clientele of the upper west side of New York City. Sometime in late 2012, shortly before Hurricane Sandy crashed through New York and much of the east coast, Bob David had asked Lance to come out and visit him in Odessa, Texas, to see just how exciting the pool industry could be.

Bob, knowing very well that he wanted to get his son into the business, cast out his line hoping that the fish would bite. Lance bit. Tired of the traffic and cost of living, Lance and his soon-to-be wife packed their things up and headed west to Odessa in January 2013.

Deep diving into the business from the start by learning the ins and outs of the business, the Davids successfully turned an 18-pool year into a 28-pool year, and each year after that they have continued to install anywhere between 40-75 pools per year. David Pool and Spa has consistently been awarded a Builder of Excellence Award, as well as a Gold Sales Award. Lance has served on two advisory councils for Latham Pools and continues to serve the industry in any way possible to help his customers in the Permian Basin and other dealers around the country.

Fast forward to today, and David Pool and Spa has entered a new era. Onboarding a new sales director who handles all sales and design and a new general manager who brings over a decade of retail experience, they are excited to launch expansion into retail sales and services. You’ll now find professional water testing and high-quality chemicals, as well as the experience required to expertly assist customers. With David Pool and Spa, the Permian Basin is going to be well taken care of.
